IT’S A TRIPLE TREAT AT BORDERLINE THIS SATURDAY!

It’s a New Year And the action returns to Borderline Speedway this Saturday Night January 6 for the next round of the Diamond Air Conditioning Speedcar Super Series, Round 2 of the Wingless Sprint Summer Slam and the Blue Lake Classic for Street Stocks.

For the first time in 12 years the SSS returns and with a high-quality entry list the racing will be great to watch.  Points leader coming into this round is Victorian Travis Mills on 1832, from NSW’s Michael Stewart who is on his way back from New Zealand at the time of print, 1802 pts, currently 3rd on points is former Legend car racer Reagan Angel who has been ultra-impressive in the #27 machine (1107pts), Queensland’s Troy Ware is in 4th on 654, while Jimi-Ray Quin rounds out the top 5 on 508. Rounding out the top 10 is Adam Wallis, Scott Doyle, Andy Hassan and Mike Griffiths. The field this week will include several drivers who will be keen to upset the SSS regulars on the Borderline Clay. SA is represented by last start winner Harley Bishop in the S6, WA’s Nick Rowe in the Jamie Crouch Lightning Karts #7 entry, Luke Bowey in the Rick McKay #10, Robert Heard, Ben Hall, Todd Wigzell, Brett Ireland & Rory Jackermis. Domain Ramsay, Justin McMinn, Anthony Chaffey, Matt Jackson, Troy Jenkins round out the field in the 22-car entry. The format consists of Time Trials, two rounds of heats, Top 6 Dash, B Main (depending on car count and A Main.

The Wingless Sprints also return on Saturday Night with Round 2 of the Summer Slam Series. The opening round is at Hamilton on Friday night with the final at Warrnambool on Sunday. A field of 45 cars have entered that include current Australian champion Joel Chadwick, who will be joined by fellow South Aussies William Caruso, Matthew Kennedy, Joel Heinrich, Michael Spoljaric, Jack McCarthy, locals Mitch Broome and Trent Gravestock while Spencer Taylor rounds out the SA nominations. Victorians will be out in numbers with lady racer Carly Walsh back in the Wingless this week after having a few runs in the Sprintcar in the past month, Mick Rigby, Luke & Daniel Storer, Todd Hobson, Geoff Cook, Glen Watts, Kevin Schembri are just to name a few who will be in action.

The Mount Gambier region has had many Street Stock drivers do very well in this class and the Blue Lake Classic this week will be no exception with 34 cars nominated its anyone’s guess to see who will claim the honours.  Australia 1 Rhys Heinrich is in the field along with former Aussie one Anthony Beare, Local Mt Gambier star Mark Jennings, Penola’s Mark Gartner, Meagan & Darren Forrest from Victoria, Mick Clark from Ballarat, Brad McClure, Andy Maxwell, Carey And Jeremy Weston from Adelaide, Morris Ahearn & Mildura’s Corey Sandow are just some of the names to contest this prestigious event.

With a hot weather outlook, it will be hot on and off the track this Saturday.
