SPRINTCARS SET TO BLAST OFF BORDERLINE SEASON!

By Finish Line Media

The new Speedway season kicks off at Borderline Speedway this Saturday night and what a season its going to be with the jewel in the crown - the Australian Sprintcar Championship to be held at the track from January 25-27.

No better way to start things with Round 4 of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series with current World Series Sprintcars champion James McFadden headlining a huge lineup of drivers that include 2016 Classic Winner Jamie Veal & Mt Gambiers own Steven Lines. Lines will be joined by fellow South East drivers Glen Sutherland, Scott Enderl, Trent Gravestock & Rory Button. All the SRA regulars will be in action including reigining champion Brett Milburn, current Series leader Rusty Hickman, Corey McCullagh, Jake Smith, Tasmania's Tim Hutchins, Luke Walker, Jordyn Charge, comeback kid Mike Van Bremen, Brayden Parr, Charles Hunter, Kristy Ellis, Tim Van Ginneken & Dennis Jones. There are several Sprintcar rookies who have nominated having stepped up from other classes namely Terry Rankin (Formula 500s), Rhys Baxter (Wingless Sprints) & Grant Stansfield (Formula 500s) with the latter having won the C Main at Warrnambool last weekend only to invert the machine in the following B Main with component failure. With the local contingent previously mentioned their are several SA cars who go very well on the Borderline clayway and will rate their chances very highly in the form of Brad Keller who will be taking on his first World Series Sprintcars campaign starting on Boxing Day at Murray Bridge, Ryan Jones who has already won an A Main this season, Matt Egel, Ricky Maiolo, Daniel Pestka, Steven Caruso, Jake Tranter & Lisa Walker are all capable of making the Feature race come Saturday evening. With 50 cars nominated Qualifying will once again be ultra-important to gain that front row start in the opening round of Heats.

Also on the program is the re-run of last season’s SA Formula 500 Championship which was sadly washed out in March. At the time of print a field of 24 nominations had been received with several big guns entered and some young guns who could surprise and take the SA crown. Impressive youngster Jock Goodyer from Tasmania has impressed greatly and took out two heat wins last weekend at Warrnambool and would have to start as one of the favourites for the event. Warrnambool's Jack Bell will be looking for redemption after a less than impressive run last week after encountering issues all night, expect him to be right amongst it. Another young gun to watch is Josh Buckingham who came on big time in the latter stages of the Jack Willsher Cup last week ending up in second place, Bordertowns Patrick Merrett, Whyalla's Angelo Karoussis, will also be looking for that State Championship win. Victoria is well represented with Justin Bowen, Shane Van Duynhoven, Leigh Van Ginneken, Jayden Rickett, Dale Sinclair, Andrew & Jordan Rae, James McDonald, former Speedweek champ Mathew Symons & Dion Bellman amongst the horde of cars coming from across the border. The SA contingent will include Lockie Cates, local driver Steph Munn, Gawler's Brad Stell, Richard Schmidt, Joe Mercorella and rookie Brendan Zadow who did very well at Adelaide last weekend.

The night will be supported by the stars of tomorrow in the Junior Sedans.

It all promises to be a great nights racing.
